Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1972)

I’ve always loved the film starring Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro so I was very excited to finally read the book.

Like the film, it’s vividly set in the desert kitsch of Las Vegas in 1971 and takes place via the front seat of a Cadillac and a few utterly destroyed hotel rooms. It’s a wild, drug-fuelled, rampaging, vomit-stained disembowelment of post-1960’s America.

I love the anarchy Thompson incites and find some relevance and in its undertones of shake-up for the 2020’s.

I appreciate the film more now and how well it captures the book’s insane pace.
